JOHN JOSEPH - EVOLUTION OF A CRO-MAGNON (SPOKEN WORD)

4 parts

This is brilliant, John Joseph, the lead singer of the infamous Cro-Mags spoken word, he basically tells his life story through the ages, from being a kid in the lower east side of new york, to being a kid in the cro-mags on the lower east side of new york. Tales of being fucked over, fucked up and fucking up, really good listen if you have the time and a really good listen for any cro mags fan, expect the first 2 Cro-Mags LPs to appear in this blog sometime soon.

TSOL - BENEATH THE SHADOWS

1. Soft Focus
2. Forever Old
3. She'll be Saying
4. Beneath the Shadows
5. Send My Thoughts
6. Glass Streets
7. Other Side
8. Walk Alone
9. Wash Away
10. Waiting For You

This album is brilliant, 10 tracks of a band not knowing what direction they are fucking going. Starting off as a straight up hardcore punk band they played fast and hard with typical fuck the government type lyrics and very generic music, and although still brilliant, none of it compared to this record. Natural progression took course and with each record released you sense alot more of a goth influence on the music than anything, overuse of keyboards and dark lyrics make this a fucking masterpiece. The singer Jack Grisham would go about in full drag amongst a very macho hardcore audience who would say fuck all to the guy as he would beat the shit out of any of them.

Stand out tracks are Wash Away and Beneath the Shadows, Alkaline Trio did a pretty good cover of wash away, its up on youtube have a look.

The Get Up Kids, everything by this band is brilliant, even the later more toned down, less upbeat depressed stuff, its still all fucking good though and this album is by far their best, upbeat poppy tracks that also have a really beautiful feel to them, like each one was written to someone in particular, i love it.

What can be said about this album that has not been said already? I first heard this record when I was being groomed by an older man around 4 years ago, It is an all time classic. Alot of younger kids dismiss it as cheesy or shit because their parents listen to it but they are wrong, the boss is a fucking legend and this album is his best, no matter what people say, the guy was in his prime when he wrote this, its emotional, its tough, its beautiful, its BRUCE FUCKING SPRINGSTEEN.

Download this record, buy this record, love this record and love this band.

NO MORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEE!!!!!!!

YES, Youth of Today, my favourite straight edge hardcore band of all time and the first hardcore band to put vegetarianism on the map, angry, fast, fucked up hardcore by the front runners of the new york scene in the late 80s.

Pinned back and Turned up jeans, bold shirts, nike revolution/air max1 trainers, Xd fists and shirts over hoodies, this is fucking youth crew at its finest, it was also the first "hardcore" lp i ever really got into back when i was a young un. The whole lp is brilliant but the standout tracks have to be No More, Flame Still Burns and Push it Aside.

Now when people think De La Soul, they think 3 feet high and rising and don't really look much further than that which is fucking wrong, they had numerous great records after that one including their second lp De La Soul is Dead. This record is fucking amazing, from start to finish there is no filler bar the fucking skit tracks but who gives a fuck, they are alright too, stand out tracks for me are Roller Skating Jam (which has a guest slot from the mother fucking Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest) and My Brothers a Basshead.

There are numerous reasons why this album is fucking brilliant, is it because there is not one track on this album that is bad? Is it because it is in my opinion one of the most underrated punk albums of all time (whilst being loved by everyone)? Is it because Minor Threat covered the track 12XU? Is it because Mr. Suit makes you want to piss and shit all over someone whilst spitting in their face?

YES.

The point of this blog

This blog was created for me to archive some of my favourite records of all time. Each one will include a brief description of why that record is fucking brilliant and also a link to download it. I upload none of these albums, they will just be links that i come across, support the artists if you want and buy the record, I am not too arsed. No links will be posted from bands that I feel this might effect.
